Linea outage before TGE
Ethereum Layer 2 network Linea experienced a temporary outage on Wednesday morning, just hours before its highly anticipated token generation event (TGE). The Consensys-backed project briefly halted block production after producing block 23,145,386 at 1:25 a.m. ET.
Block production resumed at 2:32 a.m. ET, leaving a 67-minute gap in network activity.
Network recovery and fix
Linea confirmed that its mainnet sequencer was affected, but operations have since stabilized. While the exact root cause of the downtime has not been disclosed, the team stated it had identified the issue and implemented a fix, according to its official status page.
Token generation and airdrop details
The downtime comes just ahead of Linea’s token generation event, scheduled for later today. The TGE includes the distribution of over 9.36 billion LINEA tokens to eligible addresses, marking one of the largest Ethereum Layer 2 airdrops this year.
The airdrop claims window will remain open for 90 days, from September 10 to December 9. Any unclaimed tokens will revert to the Linea Consortium Ecosystem Fund, which is dedicated to strengthening the Linea and Ethereum ecosystems. The eligibility snapshot for this airdrop was taken in July.

Despite the short outage, Linea appears to be moving forward smoothly with its token launch. As Ethereum Layer 2 networks gain traction, Linea’s TGE and large-scale airdrop will be closely watched by the crypto community for adoption, network stability, and market impact.
