AI-generated fake IDs claimed to pass crypto exchange KYC are selling for $15

Date:

A service claims to make fake driver licenses and passports using artificial intelligence (AI) that can fool the Know Your Customer (KYC) checks at various cryptocurrency exchanges. This service, called OnlyFake, charges $15 for each fake ID and supports multiple cryptocurrencies for payment.

OnlyFake offers fake IDs for several countries, including the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and countries in the European Union. A report mentioned that using a fake British passport from OnlyFake, it managed to get past the KYC process of the OKX exchange. Users have shared successes in bypassing verifications on platforms like Kraken, Bybit, Bitget, Huobi, and PayPal through a Telegram channel.

The service could benefit those looking to engage in fraudulent activities by allowing them to hide their true identities. The owner of OnlyFake, known as “John Wick,” claims the IDs can pass the KYC checks on major exchanges like Binance, Kraken, Coinbase, and others.

OKX responded to these claims, emphasizing its commitment to combatting fraudulent activities and ensuring compliance. They are investigating the matter closely. OnlyFake insists it does not produce illegal forged documents, stating the IDs are intended for entertainment purposes like movies or TV shows.

Creating a fake ID on OnlyFake is quick, taking less than a minute, and users can even manipulate the metadata of the images to appear more authentic. This manipulation includes changing the GPS location, date, time, and the device used to take the photo.

The ease of creating and using fake IDs raises significant concerns about security in the crypto space. Notably, the rise of AI and deepfake technologies poses new challenges for identity verification processes. Binance’s chief security officer, Jimmy Su, warned that deepfakes could soon be convincing enough to deceive human verifiers.

Efforts to contact Coinbase and other mentioned companies for comments on using their services by OnlyFake have been unsuccessful so far.
