Unusual Crypto-Related Activity on the Spanish Embassy’s Social Media Account.

The official social media account of the Spanish embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has shown an unusual interest in cryptocurrency airdrops and upgrades, sparking speculation that the account may have been hacked. The embassy’s account was seen asking various crypto projects about their airdrops and other details, which is not typical behavior for an official embassy account.

The embassy’s account inquired about the Jupiter Snapshot in response to a post from the WEN meme coin page on January 30, but this message has since been deleted. Additionally, the account asked the gaming blockchain network Beam about details of its launchpad and questioned Hex founder Richard Heart about the Pulsechain launchpad.

In the last 24 hours, the Spanish embassy’s account posted as many as 41 crypto-related comments, reaching out to various projects like De.Fi 2.0, Dymension, Frame, Monad, Router Protocol, Phantom, SatoshiVM, and StarHeroes. Although many of these posts have been deleted, 20 responses were still visible at the time of reporting.

Some social media users, like “LeonBlockchain,” found the situation amusing, noting the posts’ absence of phishing links. This unusual activity has suggested that there may be a cryptocurrency enthusiast within the embassy rather than a typical social media account hack. The Spanish embassy has not confirmed if its account was compromised. Notably, no crypto-related comments were shared by the account before January 29.

We know that one of the crypto news websites has contacted the Spanish Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a comment but has not received a response yet. This incident adds to the list of high-profile social media accounts being compromised, including the United States Securities and Exchange Commission account, which was hacked in January due to a SIM swap attack.
